Children’s liturgy

What is Children’s liturgy?

Children’s liturgy is a practice where young children are separated from the main congregation to hear the Sunday readings and Gospel at an age appropriate level. This adapted liturgy involves simplified readings, storytelling, songs, crafts, or drama, followed by prayer, before the children rejoin the main service for the offertory and Eucharist. The goal is to make the scriptures and faith more accessible and engaging for children, teaching them to listen, pray, and respond to God’s word in a way they can understand.

Participate

Saint Malachy’s Church Castlewellan facilitates a weekly children’s liturgy program during term time for children generally of primary school age. At the beginning of Vigil Mass, children are lead to the Kilmegan Centre by their leaders and during this time they listen and respond to the Sunday Gospel delivered at an age appropriate level. Our leaders use resources relating to each week of the liturgical year to deliver the Gospel message and the children are encouraged to explore their faith through Gospel reflections, prayers, songs and activities.

The leaders within our parish aim to provide a safe, welcoming and peaceful environment for all the children helping to build a foundation for faith. A register will be taken during each session, so you do not need to sign your child up separately. Sessions are run by AccessNI approved, trained adults.

All children are welcome to attend!
